A Spring Cake

So, here is our spring cake to celebrate the warmer weather. What is that big whole in the middle you ask - oh that is our dear Jonas who took matters into his own hands when we were not moving fast enough getting him cake.

I was trying to get all the toys cleaned up and Jason and Nila and I ended up in the basement where we lingered. After about 15 minutes Jason said he was going upstairs to check on Jonas since all was quiet. I actually defended the little kid saying that usually he was just playing trucks or reading books....yeah, not so much!

Carnival #2

A little face paint.

They had a reptile room that showcased the reptile club pets. This tourtis was awesome! Both kids loved the snakes and the taranchela. Jonas kept going back to pet it.

We went to my Mom's school carnival a couple of weeks ago. Nila got to spend the afternoon with Grandma in her class and she LOVED it. Grandma said that she did very well and all the kids loved having her. We joined them for dinner and then the carnival that evening. Nila won the cake walk on our third try and we got an awesome cake in the shape of a hat. It was seriously good.

After the show I snuck Nila through some doors and up onto stage so she could get her photo with Cinderella and the prince. Pure four year old joy.

Cinderella

Sarah got Nila and I tickets to Cinderella ballet yesterday. Nila really enjoyed herself, all the little girls wore their princess dresses.

This is Jonas in his monster PJ's. He has a hard time every night when he has to choose between his "CAWS" = Cars "MONSTERS" = Monsters, "Beawrs" = Bears, "Wockets" = Rockets, or "Bum FU%K P.J.'s" = Dump Truck P.J.'s. Whenever he puts his monsters on he gives a big rooorrrrr to top off the experience.

Monsters looking for a spoon

Jonas is getting to be the age where he needs to do EVERYTHING on his own. His limited vocab now includes "Choose" or "Self" this is what he starts to cry if we get PJ's for him or a spoon or a "Insert anything we are doing for him now". He also will freak out if I lift him into the car seat or up the stairs without him asking first.

Happy Saint Patties Day

So Nila tells me that on St Patricks day if you catch a leprechaun and make him laugh he needs to give you his pot of gold. Seriously, that is what she said to me tonight.... I love four year olds.

Worlds Best Parent!

So I have moved Sarah and the kids many times and always started a new position with a bang working long hours etc. Well after working many hours and weekends already this year I came home last Saturday and took Nila out for a bike ride while Jonas took his nap and we got our picture in the paper. I told Sarah it was a bit funny that she has been doing all this extra work to take care of the kids "while pregnant with number three" and I take Nila out for 30 min and get my photo in the paper. Her response was something of a mumble that I did not catch completely.

Nila got her face painted. She asked for a mermaid. I asked the zoo helper that was doing the face painting when they were going to get some mermaids at the zoo.

Spring is in the air at the zoo I guess.

Last weekend the zoo was having opening day and after work I took the kids over to see the animals. At one point when I was in the monkey house with the kids they both went up to the window to look at the monkeys, I went over to Nila then went back to find Jonas and he was gone... I scanned all the kids heads again then looked around the room... No Jonas. I then went out through the doors to the outdoor viewing area no Jonas... Ok he must be inside... No Jonas.. So I go outside again and walk back out through the outdoor viewing area and around the corner and there he is a little dot in the distance running along. I take off after him and when I finally catch up he is smiling and having a grand old time....

Nila fell down sometime during the four hours outside. You might not be able to see the scrape - it is that little little red spot on her knee. Of course it was not major enough to warrant coming inside WHEN it happened, but a band aide was needed all the same.

I have found him twice in this position - must move the chair! He likes to point to all the people he knows in the photos.

Jonas spent the whole time watching the girls out the window.

Neighborhood Kids

We moved into a neighborhood with a ton of kids. We have been out strolling the streets and met a few along the way. Well, the other day three little girls showed up at our doorstep asking if Nila could come out and play. This is a new one for us because all the "playdates" up until now have been very structured. We didn't exactly know the rules when the kids are left to just run wild down the street. We kept the door open and a nervous watch out the window. So far so good. Nila is in heaven playing with the girls and it looks like all the girls on the street play together and just rotate from house to house. We are lucky enough to be situated just in the middle and the older ones always help Nila cross the street and come over to let me know if they will be going into a house to play for a while. Yesterday Nila was outside playing for four hours straight! I MADE her come in for lunch and she grabbed the sandwich off the counter and scarfed it down standing up and then ran out the door again. I can't wait to see what summer brings!

New Bunk Beds

Nila and Jonas got new bunk beds this weekend! Nila has been asking for a bunk bed for about 8 months now so she is very very happy. She is so tall and was squeezed into the toddler bed so this is a nice change. We planned ahead for once and got the trundle for under the bed too for future sleepovers.

The kid's room is starting to come together. We used the rug from the old playroom and I made the new comforter covers using fabric I had bought about 4 years ago in France. I loved it and was waiting to use it for the kids room. Now I need to make pillows and curtains and then Jason will paint while the kids and I are away enjoying the sun in Florida - raw deal I know, but his choice. Jonas is still in his crib, but he still says "My Bunk Bed" so maybe he will be transfered soon. Oh and we had to get a new light because the ceiling fan is now just at the right height to decapitate the kids. Must change that immediately! But overall we are full steam ahead on getting the house in shape for when the baby is born.
