Nametags

We have put the kids into the nursery at church on Sunday and Nila is now obsessed with the "nametags" that they get. Here she made nametags for everyone for the afternoon.

Jonas is eating!

Jonas has been a little behind in the eating area. At 8 1/2 months he finally decided he would try (and I mean just try) a little pureed food. Only over Christmas did he start to eat three meals of real food a day. And he was even known to choke on a FLAKE of oatmeal - I am serious this really did happen - the whole family was all concerned (What is he choking on? Could he have found something on the floor?) - no, just a FLAKE of oatmeal. But, just last week I gave him a bit of cheese and now it seems he has gotten over his fear of food and it very happy to be eating finger food.

Nila is a bit camera shy - I know, hard to believe, but she has taken to yelling "Don't take a picture of me" whenever the camera appears. It has been impossible to get one of her straight on smiling. But, this morning she wanted to eat "right next to Jonas" and then asked me to get the camera to take a picture. What a great smile!

Brushing Teeth

I showed this photo to Nila after I took it and she said "LOOK! Two Nilas!"

We are working on brushing her teeth. She likes to chew more than brush. Usually after she has gnawed on the tooth brush for awhile I will give them all a quick scrub, but she needs to start learning to do this herself. Last night we practiced making bubbles together (best made with vigorous even brushing). She loves bubbles so this should go well.

Nila on the phone with the NY Grandparents.. She is getting much better at talking on the phone.

Today at dinner with everyone she said that "Nila has lots of grandpas and grandmas, two grandmas and two grandpas." She is talking so much more every day. She is also making up songs that are sometimes a bit difficult to follow since they pull evenly on all experiences she has had in her three years of life, mostly in no particular order.

Grandma and Pappa came down today to help us unpack / clean / keep the kids away from the box cutters. Nila had Pappa read her about 10 books (And I think I heard him read one of the 10 about 5 times in a row). Jonas is not so much a sit and listen to books kind of kid quite yet....

* Jonas is one of the happiest babies I have ever seen during the day. Then you put him to bed AND THE BABY JECKEL EMERGES!!! Seriously the kid is almost one year old and he has not once slept through the night. A good night is Bed at 8pm, Wake up at Midnight, Wake up at 5:30. We have had a handful of good nights. Most nights are worse than that. Some nights we are up 5 to 7 times putting him back down. He just does not have the ability to put himself back to sleep. Sometimes he will be crying in his crib and we will just hear " WAAAAA WAAAAA WAAAA THUD" as he basically just falls over asleep.

We have, of course, tried almost everything we can think of to get the kid to sleep.. As much trouble as he is at night, they are all worth it when I get him at 5:30 and he gives me a hug and a huge smile.

My little helper

Nila loves to help me put things together. She made it through 7 bolts before getting a little bored and moving on.

After everything was together it made a nice little four room house for her and her babies.

Finding fun...

So last week things were getting a little fraught at the house. We had been stuck inside for almost two weeks straight. On Thursday I had a brillant idea to make a "house" out of some of our boxes for Nila to play with. I asked Nila if she wanted a house for her little people to play with and she said yes. I was congratulating myself on how creative and brillant I was - make fun out of what you have. So I got a small box and was cutting out a door for the front when I thought it might be nice for her to be able to actually walk her people in the door - so I cut out the back of the box too. DISASTER! Nila started crying and screaming and having an absolute fit because I had broke her new house. This was all before she had even played with it! So much for my brilliant idea. She proceded to have a total tantrum and yelled at me - "Mama, don't break my house!"

After a while she calmed down a bit and proceeded to fix the house. She got this paper and used her stickers to attach it and cover the hole.

On the front door she used a star sticker to hold the door closed.

Overall this WAS NOT FUN AT ALL.

Our ship came in!

The boat shipment arrived today. So after moving 8 times since we were married Sarah and I, for the first time, have ALL of our possessions in not only the same country but also the same state, zip code and house. Almost all the stuff that got delivered today went right into nice rows in the basement. We now need to go through it all and find out what we have two (or three) of and try and slim things down a little bit in preparation for our next move (at a yet to be determined date).

Aunt Lis had the day off and helped watch the kids and unpack. Nila was super excited the entire time the boxes were coming in because her toys had finaly arrived. The bottom photo is of her pointing to a box and telling me that "My bike is in here Daddy!".

This is also the first time in all of those moves that we had professional movers. This was a real back saver. It is a bit funny though because when they came to pack up the house they just packed up EVERYTHING. When we are opening boxes we are finding paperclips and spare change from the bottoms of drawers, a couple dirty dishes that we must have forgot to wash, a balloon (still inflated), etc. Lucky we remembered to empty the trash cans because I can guarantee that they would have been wrapped in paper and boxed with the rest of the stuff.

Moving

A couple of photos from the move. This truck was Just a bit to small to empty our storage in GR. Sarah and I opened box after box of stuff that we had not seen for almost 6 years. It was all a bit crazy, we found some stuff we really missed and other things that we never new we had. (Like when Sarah said "I would have sworn on Jasons life we did not own a blender.") Our boat shipment from France arrives tomorrow morning. It will be the first time Sarah and I will have all our stuff in one place, EVER! Oh and Nila LOVED going up and down that ramp on the truck.
